BELAGAVI: Belagavi city will soon shine bright as it will be getting over 37,000 LED streetlights in the coming weeks under the Smart City Project.
At a meeting held recently, deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil instructed the departments concerned to ensure the installation of lights is done on time.
“The process of installation of LED lights must be finished with the next five weeks, as the winter session has been scheduled in December in Belagavi.
Besides, road work under
Smart City and the city corporation should be completed on priority,” the DC instructed officials.
Following this DC’s instructions, Belagavi Smart City Limited started installation of poles where LED lights will be fixed soon. In a few areas all existing streetlights will be replaced.
This news has made Belagavi residents happy. However, they point out that areas in the heart of the city like College Road and Golf Course Road do not have proper electric poles.
Praveen, a resident of Hanuman Circle, blamed the district administration as the electric poles on the stretch have not been lit. “A few months ago, this entire area was not properly lit. The operation to capture a leopard that was prowling near the area was not successful as there was insufficient light,” he told TOI.
Speaking to TOI, BSCL MD Praveen Bagewadi said, “We have given a tender and further work is being carried out by the city corporation. Most of the work will be completed by November end.”
